When I was a freshman I attended the “Fish Bowl” school. This was the last year that Round Rock HS had a 9th grade center due to the large number of students in the high school. It became Chisholm Trail MS the following year. When I was a sophomore, Westwood HS opened. I remember that the railroad tracks on 620 were the dividing line. There was nothing but open land between Round Rock HS and 183.

“I also remember my senior year participating in the Rose Bowl parade with the marching band. The entire town of Round Rock worked to buy the band new uniforms and help pay for the trip. It was truly a community effort.”

I did attend a class at times at Westwood HS when there were not enough students at each campus to make the class but enough students combined to make one class. One week the class would be at Round Rock HS and the next week at Westwood HS. Our graduating class was the last group of kids to really know their Westwood counterparts as we had all been friends in 9th grade.

I also remember my senior year participating in the Rose Bowl parade with the marching band. The entire town of Round Rock worked to buy the band new uniforms and help pay for the trip. It was truly a community effort. Businesses donated money, there was a dance at the SPJST featuring the daughter of Willie Nelson and the city of Round Rock hosted a “Run for Roses” 5k in order to raise money to send the band to California. We marched 6 miles around the track once a week playing our songs in order to be in shape enough to make it through the parade.
