Archie Holmes headshotIn April 1993, Archie Holmes was elected to the Round Rock ISD Board of Trustees. In doing so, he became the first African-American to serve on the Board. At the time, Holmes worked as a computer programmer and manager at IBM.

The then 52 year-old Holmes won a seat for Place 3, beating Berry Sullivan by the count of 3,450 to 2,766 with 56% of the vote. He was administered the Oath of Office and was seated on the Board Thursday, May 6, 1993.
